The Ministry of Education has announced important updates on B.C.’s new curriculum, including the Foundation Skills Assessments (FSA) written in grades 4 and 7. Please take a look at the attached letter from Education Minister Mike Bernier.
Tonight’s PAC meeting has been reschedule to Tuesday November 29, 2016 in the library.
Thank you for your understanding!
Together with educators, the Government of British Columbia is developing a new reporting approach for students in kindergarten to Grade 9, to give parents a deeper understanding of their child’s progress at school. With new curriculum being implemented in B.C. classrooms this school year, the way student progress is reported must change too.
The parent engagement process includes the launch of an online feedback forum (web- link below), along with 10 community meetings around the province.
The input from the public engagement process, along with feedback from school district leaders, experts and teachers, and research by the Ministry will all be considered as the provincial K-9 student reporting approach is developed and finalized.
A summary report on the overall engagement process and the input received will be produced and posted online for the public to view in June 2017.
The community meeting will be Open-House style for the first two hours. Parents and interested community members are invited to come in and learn more, talk to Ministry and school district staff, and then complete a feedback form.
The last hour will be a facilitated design session (run by Ministry facilitators) specifically focused on the future of reporting student progress.
You are invited to attend an Open House to view the Residential Construction Homes built by School District #60 students and local trade groups.
